Chores

As a child I never had chores.  I never had to take out the trash, do the dishes, wash my laundry, make my bed, vacuum my room, or shovel the sidewalk.  My mom always said that I'll have enough time when I'll have to do all those chores when I get older and have a family.  In fact, when I go home, at the ripe old age of 26, I still have no chores. I got my allowance for being lovable and saved it up to buy $80 American Girl dolls (I have 3, and just spent far too long perusing that site.  Did you know Kirsten and Samantha are RETIRED?  I wish I never let my next door neighbor trim Samantha's bangs when we played hairdresser; she'd be worth a pretty penny now.  And I just made a post about my doll collection.  I digress).  Now that I've lived on my own for the better part of a decade, I present to you the following lists for review and a hypothesis why I find these lists particularly important in life.

My least favorite chores:
1. Taking out the trash.
2. Doing dishes
3. Dusting
4. Car maintenance

My non-least favorite chores (let's be honest, does anyone like chores?):
1. Baking (not cooking)
2. Cleaning (including vacuuming, but not including dusting)
3. Making the bed
4. Errands (including grocery shopping, post office, etc.  I venture to say I enjoy this chore)

So, I think the key is to find someone who likes doing my least favorite chores and dislikes doing my non-least favorite chores.  Chemistry.com, my ass, all you need are these two lists!

Would you make this face do chores?

Busy bee

My brother came up to visit two weeks ago for the Louisville game, and I'm lucky enough to have him coming again this weekend (Saturday) for the Villanova game.  As much as things have been rough for him the past year, I know we are now closer than ever, and for that I am very grateful.

Another game, another picture for mom

My mom is also on the schedule for a visit this week (Thursday).  Unfortunately a nor'easter is putting a wrench into our plans for pedicures, and her visit may be delayed.  After thoroughly testing the pedicure community, I have found the absolute best pedicure right here in Syracuse.  Obviously it's right next to Wegmans.  Hot stones, need I say more?  There is something about getting you feet all pretty that just makes a girl feel good.

And to cap off the weekend, Sunday is "Green Beer Sunday" at Coleman's, my favorite watering hole here in Syracuse.  A huge truck delivers the first batch of green beer starting the beginning of St. Patrick's "season."

Another busy weekend that is really starting off a stretch of busy weekends.  Upcoming trips include Boston, Turks & Caicos, and DC.  I'm trying to fit everything in before a busy summer of studying, coffee, and more studying.  It's kind of scary to think this is my last few months of the college lifestyle.  On cue, I just started to get chest pains.  Yikes.  Breathe.

Tunes Tuesday (or #musicmonday)

My music taste is weird.  I mainly like girly pop and two rappers (Asher Roth and Eminem).  Here are my favorites at the moment:

Girly pop:

White rap:

Ask any of my college friends and they will tell you this was my favorite song for all four years of college.

In honor of the Olympics:

Told you I liked books

I've been reading The Emperor's Children by Claire Messud for probably a year now.  NYT gave it a favorable review, but the B&N woman told me she didn't like it.  And me?  I just can't finish it.  But, since I'm more than halfway through, I just won't stop reading it.  At what point do I just say to myself, "put the book down."

House Rules, Jodi Picoult's newest book hits the Amazon virtual shelves March 2, 2010, perfect timing for Spring Break.  I'm hoping Amazon ships a la Harry Potter, and I get it on the release date.  (Or I could go to an actual STORE, but who does that anymore?)  Not including this new book, I have three more of Picoult's books to read and then I've read all eighteen of her books.  I tend to do this sort of thing with books, music, and probably other things I don't even realize.  Instead of downloading one song, I download an album.  Instead of reading one book, I read them all.  I think I'm halfway through all of John Grisham's.

Music Monday #musicmonday

I was all prepared to do Music Monday, and then I forgot.  So...Tunes Tuesday:

A gaming tradition

My brother and I have a tradition of going to Syracuse basketball games.  To be honest, if it weren't for him, I'm not sure if I would have gone to any games.  However, now I'm a true fan - three bright orange shirts, one gray shirt, one sweatshirt and I even have a favorite player, Arinze Onuaku.  Have you heard a better name?  (Okay, Scoop Jardine is a pretty cool name too).

2007 (Georgetown)

Tomorrow we're going to the Louisville game, and in honor of Valentine's Day, I made a little sign for Louisville's coach, Rick Pitino, who according to my brother is "such a guido."  Well, in that case, of course he would be perfect for Snooki.

2008 (Villanova)

I had to buy a set of magic markers and poster board.  Staples no longer offers single sheets of plain white poster board - there are three packs with ghostline grids, foam boards in every color, and not even single sheets of the plain white foam board - only sets of three.  I guess kids these days use the colored foam boards since they print things off the computer and adhere.  Handwriting a poster is so 2000 and late.

Pretty sure there's catnip in there somewhere

I went with the three pack of ghostline grid (it made straight lines and measurements very easy).  My black magic marker barely lasted for Pitino's name.  They don't make things like they used to.
